The Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS Test) is a standardized, multiple choice exam for students entering into nursing school. It is often used to determine the ability of potential students to adjust to a nursing program. The test is created and administered by ATI (Assessment Technologies Institute, LLC).

Please arrive at Hunter by 3:30 p.m. to sign in for a 4:00 p.m. test start time. The exam may take up to four hours to complete. The cost is $107 plus tax. Please call Jacquelyn Rudjord at 631.569.7702 for details or email her for more information or to ask questions.

Thanksgiving was originally created as an annual national holiday in the United States to celebrate the harvest and other blessings of the past year. Today the holiday provides each of us, regardless of our background, with an opportunity to gather with our families and participate in this tradition.

There are no classes at either campus Thursday, November 26, or Friday, November 27, in celebration of Thanksgiving. In addition, there are no evening classes the night of Thursday, November 26. This means you have a four-day weekend…a thing of beauty! Go to learn all about the holiday you think you already know.

About the Graduation Ceremony

The pinning ceremony is a tradition that stems from Florence Nightingale when she started graduating nurses. It’s about honoring and celebrating Practical Nursing students prior to their officially entering the profession of nursing.

This time honored nursing school tradition is often more meaningful than the graduation ceremony. It signifies the official initiation into the world of nursing.

The ceremony is rich with symbolism. The modern ceremony dates back to the 1860’s when Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing, was awarded the Red Cross of St. George in recognition of her tireless service to the injured during the Crimean War.

To share the honor, she in turn presented a medal of excellence to her brightest graduates. By 1916, the practice of pinning new graduates was standard throughout the United States.

The pinning of Practical Nursing students who are about to graduate is a rite of passage and precedes their exam to become a fully licensed practical nurse.

In the full knowledge of the task I am undertaking, I promise to take care of the sick with all the skill and understanding I possess, without regard to race, creed, color, politics, or social status, sparing no effort to conserve life, to alleviate suffering, and promote health.
